NEW US AMBASSADOR TO BULGARIA ARRIVES IN SIX WEEKS

James Pardew, the new US ambassador to Bulgaria, is expected to arrive in six weeks, Richard Miles, current US ambassador said at a farewell meeting with business representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce. He pointed out that Bulgaria has become a paragon for all the Balkan countries. The free elections, the stability as well as the open discussion of different political point of views are achievements Bulgarians should be proud of, Miles explained. He assured the businessmen that they can rely on cooperation and support on behalf of the American Embassy in Sofia from now on too. President George W. Bush appointed veteran diplomat James W. Pardew to be US ambassador to Bulgaria. Pardew, is currently a special adviser on Southeast Europe for the State Department. During the Kosovo conflict, Pardew was deputy special adviser to the president and secretary of state on democracy in the Balkans. He previously directed the Military Train and Equip program for Bosnia and was part of the U.S. team in negotiations on the Dayton peace agreement for Bosnia. His nomination to head up the U.S. embassy in Bulgaria must be confirmed by the Senate. Richard Miles, current American Ambassador to Bulgaria was nominated by US President Bush, as U.S. ambassador to the former Soviet republic of Georgia.
