Three prostitution rings in Sofia have been broken during a joint operation of police and their anti-organised crime colleagues.

Police rushed simultaneously into three apartments in the center of Sofia and arrested eight men, the majority being fellow citizens from a town near the capital. The eight were seized while "on duty" guarding the girls and collecting their "earnings".

At the moment of the raid 20 girls, who were later found to come from all over Bulgaria, were "on shift".

The prostitution network based on an Internet web page was offering "a catalogue" of young girls aged between 18 and 25. The criminals are suspected to have earned some BGN 50 an hour per girl. Under-aged girls were obtainable at a higher price, police said.

The girls had profiles with professional photos posted on the web page, accompanied by an exhaustive list of their physical data and "professional" skills.

According to anti-criminals, the web site was professionally developed, users could post opinions in a forum, rank the girls and even select a girl of the day.

VIP services were also at hand offering a view of porno photos for an SMS of BGN 2 (EUR 1). The fee covered VIP user name and password.

During the raid alone, policemen recorded 14 requests for sexual services per hour, Interior Ministry's press office informed. The web site was suspended and is now unavailable online.

Police has launched an investigation into the criminal ring's activity.
