34 further detainees captured in Afghanistan have arrived at the US Naval Base in Guantбnamo Bay, in Cuba. Following US President Bush's announcement Thursday that former Taliban fighters would be treated according to the Geneva Convention, US military personell are now faced with the difficulty of determining their captives' identity. While denying them the rights of prisoner of war status,Mr. Bush's decision promises Taliban militiamen better treatment than it does al Qaeda members. The identities of a large number of the 220 detainees at Guantбnamo Bay remains unknown, a senior military official said, as the prisoners continue to give false or multiple identities.
