The Argentine government plans to shut down its embassy in Bulgaria, EFE agency reported. The move is part of a huge plan under which the cash-starved Argentine government would close up to a third of its embassies and consular posts in an effort to cut costs. Officials said Buenos Aires would shut down diplomatic outposts in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Central America and the Caribbean starting in March, the La Nacion newspaper wrote February 10. Embassies in Senegal, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Lybia, Kuwait, Yugoslavia, Romania and Honduras, as well as European Union offices in Brussels and U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) facilities in Rome are scheduled for the first round of closings. A number of consulates will also be closed. The move, which should be completed by October, is to save the government close to USD 35 M per year.
