What is important for us are not the concrete dates of Bulgaria’s entry into NATO, but the speeding up of the efforts in this direction, Foreign Minister Passy said for CNN, broadcast live from the studio in London. Minister Passy pointed out that the Bulgarian Cabinet relies on unanimous parliamentary support of the strategy for accelerated EU negotiations. He declined to name concrete dates of accession and pointed out that such forecasts can be made only after the end of Spain’s EU presidency, to which Bulgaria attaches great importance.

Answering a question Minister Passy expressed once again disagreement with French Foreign Minister’s opinion that all candidates must be acceded simultaneously. Bulgaria has always insisted on an impartial approach to all candidate countries, he said. The anchor voiced concerns over the possibility of Bulgaria turning into an entry for illegal immigrants and terrorists. Minister Passy pointed out that Bulgaria has been a de facto partner of the Alliance in the Kosovo crisis and the anti-terror war campaign. He expressed the hope that the country’s loyalty to the international community will be duly rewarded. Minister Passy is on an official visit in Great Britain.
