FIRST DAY OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES WITHOUT BULGARIAN PARTICIPATION

Bulgaria failed to make any of its scheduled performances in the first day of the 19th Winter Olympic Games. Georgi Zhekov was to be the first Bulgarian participant in Salt Lake City, but K 90 qualifications were cancelled and rescheduled for February 10, because of snow storm. No Bulgarians took part in the start of the 30-km free-style ski-race February 9 either. 19-year-old debutante Ivan Baryakov had not trained for that distance, while Slavcho Batinkov was restoring after a cold.
