Angry Brazilian football fans have destroyed a seven-metre-tall statue of World Player of the Year Ronaldinho following the national team's defeat by France.

The statue of resin and iron in the southern town of Chapeco in Santa Catarina state was burnt on Saturday night after Brazil's 1-0 defeat. The monument, depicting Ronaldinho with a ball, was inaugurated two years ago.

The statue of the famous player had been inaugurated two years ago, when he was selected the world's best player by FIFA.
