KFOR Soldier Causes Havoc at Sofia Disco

Crime | July 1, 2006, Saturday // 00:00

A soldier from the international KFOR contingent deployed in Bulgaria has trashed a Sofia disco on Friday night.

Sid Stevens was drinking in a disco at the capital's Sveta Nedelya Square when another man tried to hit on his girlfriend, Trud Daily newspaper reported. The soldier got enraged and started a quarrel.

Stevens tried to break one of the tables at the disco, and the police was alerted. When authorities appeared, one of his colleagues managed to subdue him and take him outside, firmly keeping his arms twisted to his back. He then laid him down on the curb and alerted a special KFOR task force for the incident.

"Leave me alone, you are all traitors, you want to kill me," the drunk soldier yelled to all the passers-by who had gathered to watch the action.

Many peacekeepers from the NATO-led multinational Kosovo Force prefer to spend their short leaves in Sofia.
