Drunken Irish Bully Not Arrested, Was Minor

Crime | June 30, 2006, Friday // 00:00

The drunken Irish tourist that assaulted the manager of a restaurant at the Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach hasn't been arrested, because he is a minor, reports say.

Oisin Gough, who is 15, and his 19-year-old sister Rebecca had been deprived of their passports after the two got into a fight with Mariyan Milanov over some chairs.

The two and their friends were intoxicated and set on having some more fun even though the "Sea Casino" restaurant, owned by Milanov had already closed. They started pulling the chairs out of the restaurant, and Milanov asked them to leave the chairs and go.

The group of teenagers surrounded him, and insults started piling up. Rebecca Gough smacked him on the head with his purse several times and then her brother joined in, hitting him with a bottle and stabbing him in the stomach.

Wounded Milanov was rushed to the hospital with a stomach wound and peritonitis. The glass punctured the left part of his abdominal cavity and pierced his small intestines three times. He was in surgery for over an hour. He is currently stable, conscious and doesn't have fever, but is too traumatized to speak to the media, his doctor has told Trud daily.

Police was not able to arrest assaulter Gough, because he is a minor, and they are still gathering evidence to implicate his sister in hooliganism. The 15-year-old claims he is sorry and that he was under the influence of alcohol. Police has already pressed charges against him for hooliganism and cause of bodily harm. They will take the case to the prosecution on Monday at the latest, according to reports.

Oisin and Rebecca Gough came to Bulgaria with a group of Dublin tourists June 23. Thy weren't accompanied by their parents.

This is the second time that a foreign tourist violently attacks Bulgarian citizens along the Black Sea coast. Michael Shields was jailed for 10 years after being convicted of attempted murder of bartender Martin Georgiev in the Golden Sands resort. He was holidaying in the Bulgarian resort after seeing his favourite team win the Champions League final.
