Antiques worth EUR 5 M that were saved during a special police raid were exhibited at the National History Museum in Sofia.

The antiques were found when police crushed two big organized crime gangs dealing with thefts and traffic, Valentin Petrov, head of National Police explained.

Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov expressed his personal gratitude to the police for the perfectly done job and added that Bulgaria's state will continue its battle to bring the cultural heritage back to Bulgaria.

The two gangs worked in Veliko Tarnovo and Knezha. Four people have been detained so far in connection to the cases. They were selling the antiques to Germany and the Netherlands.

Police experts also claim that the Veliko Tarnovo gang planned to hit and rob three banks in the city.
