Drunken Irish Tourists Stab Bulgarian at Sea Resort

Crime | June 29, 2006, Thursday // 00:00

A group of drunken Irish tourists have beaten up the manager of a restaurant at the Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach, police said.

The tourists approached the restaurant and started to pull chairs out of the restaurant, which was already closed. Following the manager's reproaches, a 19-year-old Irish girl smashed him with her bag. Her brother followed suit shortly after that, hit his head with a bottle and stabbed him in the stomach.

The victim has been hospitalised at Burgas hospital, his life is out of danger.

This is the second time that a foreign tourist violently attacks Bulgarian citizens along the Black Sea coast. Michael Shields was jailed for 10 years after being convicted of attempted murder of bartender Martin Georgiev in the Golden Sands resort. He was holidaying in the Bulgarian resort after seeing his favourite team win the Champions League final.
