Crime | June 28, 2006, Wednesday // 00:00

Italian police have nabbed 50 kilos of heroin in an eighteen-wheeler driven by two Bulgarians, reports say.

Drug enforcement units stopped the truck for a routine check and noticed that the two drivers were very nervous. This prompted the policemen to do a thorough search, and they found 100 half-kilo packets containing the drug.

The heroin had arrived in Italy through an Adriatic port, a check into the truck's papers showed. Both Bulgarians have been arrested and the police are now trying to figure out the recipient of the contraband package.

If the smugglers had been successful, selling the drugs in Italy would have brought revenue of EUR 4 M.
