Flag carrier Balkan Airlines will keep one of its slots at London’s Heathrow airport, Hristo Mollov, company’s receiver told Pari Daily. Bulgaria's indebted Balkan Airlines said on January 30 it hoped for a quick deal with British Airways in trying to sell ten slots at Heathrow airport and exchanging them for slots at Gatwick airport. The talks had been initiated by British Airways, which naturally seek to expand their presence at their national airport. Aviation experts say Balkan Airline's Heathrow slots are among its most valuable assets. Mollov told Pari Daily that British Airways was ready to compensate Balkan for the exchange of the slots with GBP 4 M. The receivers said that they are negotiating a higher price. The deal which will most probably take place during the week will provide funding for leasing two Boeings from Lufthansa and for covering the insurance costs. “If the negotiations with Balkan fail, the company will most probably go bankrupt,“ Mollov told Pari Daily. Bulgarian banks have refused to grant a USD 4 –USD 5 credit to the company because its rehabilitation plan has not yet been approved. In a separate development on February 1, the judge in charge of the lawsuit for the insolvency of Balkan Airways Kamelia Efremova withdrew from the case. “I decided to withdraw because of lack of accord in my work with the company’s receivers Olga Milenkova and Hristo Mollov,” Judge Efremova commented. The Chairman of the Sofia City Court appointed new judge for the case – Kostadinka Nedkova.
