SCHARPING SAYS GERMANY SUPPORTS BULGARIA IN EFFORTS TO JOIN NATO

Germany’s Minister of Defense Rudolf Scharping vowed his country’s support for Bulgaria’s NATO entry at a meting with Bulgaria’s Defense Minister Nikolay Svinarov and Deputy Foreign Minister Petko Draganov in the framework of the 38th Munich Conference on Security Policy in Munich. British Minister of State for Defence Adam Ingram thanked for Bulgaria’s decision to send servicemen to participate in the international peacekeeping troops in Afghanistan. Svinarov and Draganov also met with Italian Defense Minister Antonio Martino. He analysed Bulgaria's strategic ability to ensure security and stability in Southeastern Europe. The sides discussed the agenda of Svinarov's forthcoming official visit at the invitation of his Italian counterpart. Defense Minister Nikolay Svinarov met with American senators and other high-ranking politicians during the first day of the forum in Munich. The American politicians assessed highly the reform in the Bulgarian army and expressed their country’s support for Bulgaria’s candidature to join NATO.
