In the coming ten days, Interior Minister Georgi Petkanov will propose to Bulgaria’s president and prime minister the name of the new national security service director, the minister said upon his return from an official visit to Ireland. Petkanov has been refusing to tell who that person might be. He said that he is prepared to propose changes in other departments with the Interior Ministry. At the request of the president, experts are preparing a report on the state of crime in Bulgaria. On February 4, the report will be presented to the Consultative Council, minister Petkanov explained. He called the first visit to Ireland by a Bulgarian interior minister "very successful". The sides signed agreements on readmission and on cooperation in the fight against crime. A readmission agreement with Britain is to be signed by the year's end. Such agreements have already been signed with the other EU countries.
