Mutafova was among the founders of the Satire Theatre in 1957. She has played many roles there in productions of renowned directors. Mutafova is a classical philology graduate and then went to drama school at the National Theatre. She worked there for a while, then left for Prague where she graduated from the theatre department of the Academy of Art and started working at the Alhambra Theatre. Stoyanka Moutafova's style and overall aesthetic concept place her in a class of her own, according to critics. "I do not like being called a star. I have not changed over the years, I am still Stoyanka Mutafova," the actress said in the eve of her 80th birthday. She marked her anniversary on February 2 with a specially written for her play “Yesterday’s Kisses.”
