Bulgarian City Halts Celebrations Over Unsolved Double Murder

Crime | June 1, 2006, Thursday // 00:00

Children in Bulgaria's city of Pazardzhik have stated that they wouldn't hold fests for June 1, because of the unsolved murder of teenage sisters Kristina and Rositsa.

Pazardzhik will instead see a rally under the motto "No celebrations for June 1 while the murderers of children are at large." Apart from the International Children's Day, June 1 also marks four months since the brutal murder of the two Belneyski sisters.

Protesters will pass by the joint where the two sisters were last seen alive, and will then proceed to the police department, where they will serve a declaration for transparency in the investigation.

Kristina, 15, and 18-year-old Rositsa were found brutally murdered in January. Initial investigation said the two girls were raped and then killed with stones, their faces heavily battered.

Since then police has extended several times the deadline for wrapping up the investigation, the latest to be until the end of July. So far no suspects have been pointed out.
