Policeman Beaten for Breaking Up Party in Bulgaria

Crime | May 20, 2006, Saturday // 00:00

A Bulgarian policeman was assaulted when he attempted to break up a loud party in the Roma neighbourhood of the western city of Pernik.

Neighbours alerted the police about a party that was too loud, and when a patrolling unit got to the scene, the house's owner, Filip Simeonov, tried to chase them away.

Seeing the policemen the man, who was partying hard for his son's fourth birthday, arrogantly told them to get back in their car and get lost. He even turned up the music to prove his point, authorities explained.

The policemen then tried to lead Simeonov out of the house and the guests at the party started throwing bricks, stones and wood planks at them.

Soon the neighbours joined in against the police too. One of the policemen - Todor Kimov received several blows to the head.

Simeonov and his pregnant wife were arrested, and he was given fifteen days in jail for hooliganism.

Police are looking for two more assailants.
