BBC: EU Expects More from Bulgaria, Romania

Bulgaria and Romania have to fulfill ten more conditions in order to enter the EU next year, the BBC wrote following Tuesday's monitoring report buy the European Commission.

"Bulgaria in particular will have to show tangible results in the fight against corruption and organised crime," the report specified.

The final decision on the entry date will be made in October, it emerged Tuesday when the document was published.

"Bulgaria was worried that its bid to join the EU would be separated from that of Romania and that has not happened."

According to the BBC correspondents, the commission does not want to penalise reformist governments in both countries by delaying their entry, but with growing public unease in western Europe over further expansion, it has to keep up the pressure for deeper changes.
