Bulgaria was celebrating Tuesday Europe Day with a series of events all over the country.

The delegation of the European Commission in Bulgaria marked May 9 with a fest in the open under the motto "Bulgaria - European Treasure". Held in cooperation with the National Association of Bulgarian European Clubs, the event gathered students from all over the country.

Among songs, contests, raffles and many prizes, both youngsters and their parents greeted Europe Day with a smile.

To mark the special day, the EU info centre in Sofia opened an exhibition, dedicated on the fiftieth birthday of Europe's star-studded flag.

In the meantime Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov celebrated in Plovdiv along with 600 gifted students and their teachers.

May 9 marks the anniversary of the 1950 conception of the European Union.
