The European Commission will continue debates on its draft report on Bulgaria till the very day of its release, the head of the team for Bulgaria in DG Enlargement said.

"We are in good shape to prepare the report in time," Bridget Czarnota assured during her visit to the Bulgarian Danube town of Russe.

The statement actually means that any word, phrase or meaning could change on 16 May in the morning, during the adoption of the package by the EU Commission.

Latest reports show that Bulgaria could be made to wait until the last minute to find out whether it can join the European Union next year. The final assessment of its membership bid is likely to be delayed until the autumn.
