Intermediate Solution for Romania, Bulgaria Likely
Brussels may not recommend an entry date for Romania and Bulgaria in its report next week but an intermediate solution of giving the answer only this autumn is considered, EUexpands reported, citing European sources.
Until now, the EU Commission said it considered two options for its upcoming May 16 report - no recommendation, meaning the accession of one or both countries in 2007 - or a recommendation to delay of one or both to 2008.
EU enlargement spokeswoman Krisztina Nagy told EUexpands that no decision has been taken yet for Bulgaria or Romania and that as the jury is still out, "all options are on the table".
By postponing the final recommendation for autumn, Brussles will aim to keep up the pressure on Bucharest and Sofia by provided with a "to do list", the report said.
