EU May Demand New Budget Reporting Mode from Bulgaria
The finance ministers of the EU countries may demand from acceding Bulgaria and Romania to bring their budget accounting schemes in line with those of the bloc to cut their budget deficits.
According to Romanian newspaper Adevarul, during a ministerial meeting on Friday the level of preparedness of the two states, as well as that Croatia and Turkey, was discussed.
The conclusive document adopted in the end of the meeting states that the main problem for Bulgaria and Romania remains the quality of their national statistics systems and the budget accounting regulations.
The two Balkan states await for confirmation of their accession date as of 1 January 2007.
