Free test for measuring of breathing capacity were carried out in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on Tuesday to mark the World Asthma Day.

The measuring was organized with the assistance of AstraZeneca, a pharmaceutical giant will almost 30 years of experience in the struggle against respiratory diseases.

World Asthma Day is being observed all over the world with the hope of increasing public awareness of asthma and the need for better treatment and control of the disease. The day has been observed on the first Tuesday in May since the first World Asthma Day in 1998 was celebrated in more than 35 countries.

About half a million Bulgarians are suffering asthma, it was announced in April during a conference on the disease. Asthma is affecting more and more people globally, the medics alarmed.

Data points that 150 million people might be suffering from asthma.

In Bulgaria, the disease hits children twice as often as adults.
