Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Nikolay Vassilev was ranked first in the poll "The Most Efficient Economy Minister" of the online news provider novinite.com. 61% from the participants in the poll voted for Vassilev, followed by his predecessors Alexander Bozhkov with 22% and Petur Zhotev with 17% of the votes. In July, 2001, Nikolay Vassilev was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister in the Government of Simeon Saxe-Coburg. In the summer of 2002 he resigned from his position Head of Central and Eastern European research at Lazard Capital Markets, London in order to take office in the Cabinet.
