EUR 54 M TO BE EXTENDED FOR AGRICULTURE UNDER SAPARD PROGRAM

A draft agreement for extending a EUR 54 M-funding under the European Union pre-accession program SAPARD was approved by the Cabinet January 24. The grant will be released by the European Commission for support of agriculture and rural areas in the Balkan countries. Finance Minister Milen Velchev and Agriculture Minister Mehmed Dikme were authorized to sign the accord. Bulgaria was the first EU aspirant among former communist states, to sign an agreement with the European Commission in December 2000 for farm grants under SAPARD program. Under the accord Bulgarian farmers are to be granted EUR 365 M till 2006.
