A convict in murder and robberies wanted by Interpol was seized in the town of Bankya, near Sofia.
Police arrested Alexander Stoyanov, 31, in a special raid on Tuesday.
Stoyanov was sentenced to ten years in jail in May 2002 for numerous robberies and burglaries committed in August, November and December 1998 in the city of Dobritch, north Bulgaria.
The court found him guilty also of premeditated murder committed in September 1998 of a woman in Svilengrad, south Bulgaria.
A district court in Haskovo sentenced Stoyanov in 16 years in jail for the brutal murder.
At the time of the raid on Tuesday, police found with him unauthorized weapons, ammunitions and forged identity documents.
