Lawyers for Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset Ali Mohmed Al-Megrahi have launched an appeal against the conviction that made him the biggest mass killer in British history. For the first time in British court history, the proceedings are being televised The panel sitting at a Scottish court purpose built for the original trial at a former United States air base in the Netherlands convicted Al-Megrahi in January 2001 for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie in 1988 that claimed 270 lives. Al-Megrahi was jailed for life.
