The Finnish parliament will ratify the EU Accession Treaty of Bulgaria irrespectively of the advice extended by the European Commission.
In May EU's executive body is to issue its Monitoring Report on the preparedness of the country to join the Union on 1 January 2007, or a year later.
During a meeting with President Tarja Halonen and the Chairman of the Bulgaria-Finland Group of Friendship at the Parliament Jari Pekka Olavi Vilen in Helsinki, Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev was assured of the country's support for Bulgaria's scheduled membership in the EU as scheduled, on 1 January 2007.
Jari Vilén noted difficulties are not expected in the procedure of ratification of the Treaty at the Finnish parliament.
Bulgaria and Romania's Treaty of Accession has so far been ratified by fourteen EU member states - half of all ratification needed for the document to enter into force.
Finland will take over the six-month helm of the EU Presidency on 1 July 2006.
