Bulgaria's accession to the EU and NATO was the topic discussed at Foreign Minister Passy's first meeting in Denmark with his counterpart Per Stig Moller. Denmark, which takes over the EU presidency in mid-2002, will do everything possible to bring Bulgaria into the union as soon as possible, Moller said after the meeting. The common interests in the fight against terrorism were another issue discussed by Passy and Moller. Minister Passy was also received by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark who visited Bulgaria in October 2000. Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen confirmed Moller's words that Denmark will assist Bulgaria in successfully completing EU talks.
