Bulgaria’s new President Georgi Parvanov will carry on the tradition of trilateral meetings with his Greek and Romanian colleagues, it emerged after the first international appointment of the new Head of state with Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis. The two officials were unanimous that any reshaping of national borders in the Balkans is unacceptable. Instead, stabilization should be sought, and European countries should concentrate on economic investment. Simitis pledged continued support for Bulgaria's efforts towards EU and NATO membership. President Parvanov thanked the Greek Prime Minister for Greece's assistance in this field so far. It was agreed that the excellent political and economic relations between the two countries should be promoted still further. Parvanov will meet his counterparts from the neighboring states in the spring Bucharest. Greek PM Simitis invited President Parvanov to pay a visit in Greece.
