PM: N-PLANT UNITS 3,4 WILL BE CLOSED TILL 2007

Bulgaria will close down Nuclear Power plants Units 3 and 4 till 2006-2007, it emerged after the meeting of Greece’s Prime Minister Costas Simitis and his Bulgarian counterpart Simeon Saxe-Coburg. Saxe-Coburg underlined that Bulgaria must focus its efforts to meet the deadline. Prime Minister Costas Simitis stressed that Greece lauds the agreement signed between Bulgaria and the EU on closing the first four reactors of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, and expressed the opinion that all states in the region will benefit from this act. Relations between Bulgaria and Greece, and Bulgaria's quest to join NATO and the EU were also discussed. A protocol on the exchange of ratification documents for an agreement on double taxation avoidance was signed. Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou proposed Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania to present a joint position on Bulgaria’s membership in NATO during an international forum in Istanbul with the participation of EU member states' foreign ministers and representatives of the applicant states. Greece’s Prime Minister Costas Simitis, heads a delegation that arrived on a day's working visit in Bulgaria at the invitation of his counterpart Simeon Saxe-Coburg.
