The Sofia-based office of US moviemaker Nu Image will start shooting "When Nietzsche Wept" on Tuesday in the Danube town of Russe.

The movie, produced and directed by Pinchas Perry, stars Ben Cross, Joana Pacula, Jamie Elman, Armand Asante. The role of assistant directors has been assigned to Bulgarian talents - Ivaylo Velchevski and Mila Kirova.

Among the shooting sites in the town of Russe are the Jewish cemetery, the Transport Museum, the Historical Museum, a school, town streets and the suburbs.

The film is an adaptation of Irvin D. Yalom's best-seller When Nietzsche Wept.

First published in 1992, Yalom's novel imagines an encounter between philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and one of the founders of psychoanalysis, Viennese doctor Josef Breuer. The meeting occurs in 1882, where the latter must help the philosopher battle pain and despair.
