Representatives of the strong arm obsolete groupings VIS and SIC are now dealing with artifacts smuggling, it appeared Monday.
In an interview for local Darik radio the head of the special police unit for fight against crimes against national historical treasures Konstantin Dimitrov explained that the groupings rent agricultural land near archaeological spots and dig the nearby places. They seek for coins and other ancient artifacts that could be sold abroad.
Dimitrov also said that there are three main Bulgarian cities where illegal tenders for artifacts are being organized - Veliko Tarnovo, Plovdiv and Montana.
Last week Bulgaria top prosecutor Boris Velchev ordered a check into private collections of Bulgarian artifacts.
