The Brussels Airport, the fifth largest in Europe, will suggest a new business plan for the Varna Airport by mid-June, the airport`s Deputy CEOHerman Hoekermanns, said. About that time the team the consulting firm Spiekerman Engineering Co will prepare the report on the technical condition of the Varna Airport. The plan will include modernization of the existing facility and building a new passengers terminal, Noekermans said. The medium term perspective will consider building a cargo terminal and hangars, while the long-term goal focuses on extending the runway. If the average number of passengers grows by some 5% per annum, a total of 2 million people will pass through the airport by 2015. Currently the daily number of passengers of the Varna Airport exceeds 4,500, with 50 planes avialable.
The news of the Russian Transport Ministry having allegedly declined licensing to 6 aviation companies for flights to Varna and Burgas, was refuted. The listed companies have been actually refused permits to land in Moscow, which however does not prevent them from flying to Bulgarian destinations. The permits have been refused in an effort to relieve the traffic burden of the Moscow airports.
