The biggest challenge that the new Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov will be to manage with poverty, outgoing president Stoyanov said in an interview for Reuters. Stoyanov’s presidential mandate ends on January 22 when Parvanov will step in office. In the interview, Stoyanov confessed that the biggest failure during his mandate was that he couldn’t improve the standard of the ordinary people. “After we directed Bulgaria in the right way and stabilised the finances and the macroeconomics, we didn’t manage to better the life status of the Bulgarians, Stoyanov said. He added that he is confident that Parvanov will also work for EU and NATO membership. He called on the Bulgarians to keep their faith in democracy in spite of the apathy, accompanying every reform. Stoyanov said that he is distressed about his elections loss. “I am leaving with a feeling for fulfilled duty. Everything that I have done was in the name of Bulgaria, “ Stoyanov added.
