Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian has named his chief of staff as prime minister after the entire cabinet resigned earlier on Monday. Yu Shyi-ku's appointment was part of a reshuffle which BBC correspondents said is aimed at consolidating the president's power after the success of his Democratic Progressive Party in last month's parliamentary elections.
