Between january 2 and january 16, the commercial banks and the National Bank of Bulgaria (BNB) exchanged Euroland legacy currencies for 25,558,000 euros, BNB Chief Treasurer Rumyan Chobanov said. During the same period, commercial banks sold over EUR 22.6 M euros for Bulgarian levs, and the central bank alone sold 380,000 euros. Between the same dates, more than 5.6 million euros were bought for levs in the entire banking system: 5,610,000 by the commercial banks and 18,000 by the BNB. On January 16 alone, the commercial banks bought 1,400,000 euros and the BNB 18,000 euros for levs. Sales of euros for levs on that day totalled 1,119,000 euros: 1,098,000 euros by the commercial banks and 21,000 euros by the central bank. Euroland legacy currencies worth 1,752,000 euros were exchanged for euros on January 16.
