SOFIA MAYOR APPEALED AGAINST ACCUSATIONS

Politics | January 18, 2002, Friday // 00:00

The lawyer of Sofia mayor Stefan Sofianski filed two claims on January 18. The first one is submitted to the Chief Prosecutor, in which Sofianski demands abolishment of his indictment as defendant. The second appeal is filed to the regional prosecutor against the bail amounting to BGN 10,000. On January 11, Sofia mayor Stefan Sofianski was accused of a criminal breach of trust on the Sofia Municipality Euro bond issue. If found guilty, Sofia mayor faces sentences of up to ten years of imprisonment. He was released on bail of BGN 10,000. “Nobody is against the eurobonds loan, issued by the Sofia Municipality. We are against the order of mayor Sofianski for a sum of USD 135, 700 without legal grounds. There are sufficient proofs for violations of the procedure,” Deputy Chief Prosecutor Manchev commented earlier in the week.
