By the end of 2004 all diplomatic missions in Bulgaria will be guarded by professional sergeants, Colonel Zhivko Zhivkov, National Gendarmerie Service Director announced. Currently, there are 68 embassies in Sofia, 18 of which are being guarded by professionals. After the events of September 11, security was tightened in the embassies, and is still very high in the missions of the US, the UK, Hungary and Israel, Col. Zhivkov explained.
