"Lost World" Found in Indonesia

An international expedition say they have found dozens of new species in a "lost world" in the Indonesian jungle.

The scientists - from the US, Indonesia and Australia - came across a Papua province region that had no sign of civilization, and many of the living creatures were remarkably unafraid of humans.

The team claim to have discovered 20 frog species, four butterfly species and at least five new types of palms.

But they say the month-long survey was just a scratch in the surface, as they did not have the time to search the area completely.

"Anyone who goes there will come back with a mystery," the mission's co-leader Bruce Beehler was cited as saying.

Among their most impressive discoveries were a honey-eater bird with a bright orange patch on its face, and a Golden-Mantled Tree Kangaroo, which was previously thought to have been hunted to near-extinction.
