"I would like to believe that in 2002 Bulgaria's policy will remain open, balanced and predictable but also sufficiently active,” Bulgarian President Stoyanov said in his speech at the New Year reception, which the head of state traditionally hosts for foreign diplomats accredited to Bulgaria. Stoyanov wished success to the new Bulgarian Government and to his successor Georgi Purvanov, in their efforts to live up to the Bulgarian citizens' expectations for better life. The President thanked the ambassadors for their work, for their cooperation with him during his tenure, and for their understanding of Bulgaria's problems. This is the last dinner given by Stoyanov to the foreign diplomats in Bulgaria. His successor President-elect Georgi Parvanov will be inaugurated as President on January 22.
