NOVEMBER GROSS FOREIGN DEBT MARKS DECREASE OVER END-2000

Gross foreign debt totalled USD 10,024 BLN at end-November, preliminary figures of Bulgarian Central Bank show. Compared to figures of the end of 2000, gross foreign debt was down by USD 339.7 M at the end of November and accounted for 74,3% of the GDP.

Long-term liabilities amounted to USD 9,384.8 M, and short-term liabilities to USD 639.9 M.

The public sector foreign debt stood at USD 8,695.1 M (64.4% of GDP), down by USD 551.6 M from end-2000. The private sector's foreign debt totalled USD 1,329.6 M (9.8% of GDP). It grew by USD 212.0 M from USD 1,117.6 M in end-2000.

The government debt stood at USD 7,821.0 M as at end-November, down by 413.3 M in December 2000. Bulgaria paid USD1,364 BLN in principal and interest on its foreign debt in the first 11 months of last year and abtained USD 1,4 BLN in fresh foreign lending during the same period.
