UN Security Council is a standing body of the international organization, which means that it can be convened any time, Vladimir Sotirov, Bulgaria’s representative to the UN, said, commenting the Security Council work. He added that its program is very intensive.

At the beginning of each month the Council’s chairman for the given month offers a program, it is approved by the Council and serves as a base for its work. The Security Council convenes in open sessions and behind closed doors, there are standing working groups, ad hoc commissions and permanent committees.

Asked whether the Bulgarian team is prepared to start working in the Security Council Sotirov said that none of the fifteen members, 10 permanent and 5 non-permanent, can be passive since they all have primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security.

He pointed out that since the beginning of this year a new Directorate has been set up with the Foreign Ministry, which coordinates the activities of the Ministry and is to present projects-solutions to it.

According to Sotirov the establishment of the Directorate has been preceded by a very well organized preparation. A network that is to collect and analyse information, and suggest solutions has been set up with the Foreign Ministry.
