Plastic Surgery

This week Bulgarian resorts have emerged sexier than ever. And, as we all know only too well, hot looks are a bubble easily burst.

For, as it usually turns, one is only sexy enough until the ardently kept truth about a number of plastic surgeries is revealed.

The latter rule, of course, does not apply to sex goddess Pamela Anderson but few can measure up to her.

A British consumer group revealed this week that some tour operating firms have been, if I can rephrase it in such a manner, stingy in providing truthful details about Bulgarian resorts. Or, put more bluntly, they have misled their clients about the conditions in various hotels.

Thus, a number of eager foreign tourists have arrived at the sunny Bulgarian seaside only to find hotels amid construction works, situated at busy roadsides, instead of the promised picturesque lodging in the virgin depths of a Balkan piece of heaven. I can almost imagine the faces of the poor holiday goers upon their entering their rooms, decorated in a grotesque mixture of both early post Communist and late '90s Western styles.

As to the reason of this more than obvious discrepancy between fiction and reality, the abovementioned consumer group says a number of Bulgarian hotels "used an artist's impression in a brochure or website", while most of them weren't even finished. Further, some operators used cunning images and smart wording to mislead their clients about location.

In other words, what these hotels and tour operators have performed constitutes, mildly put, a form of plastic surgery.

However, the manner in which they operated proved rather unprofessional and damages both theirs and Bulgaria's image.

As for the tourists, I believe those of them able and willing to cope with a vacation in a foreign country managed to find themselves better places to stay.

The rest probably went home and engaged in a fight to get their money back.

Whichever they chose, I guess it hasn't been easy for them to accomplish. But, hey, who says being married to Tommy Lee is a piece of cake?
