The Economic Police has improved its performance from 2000 with a total of 13,698 offences found., the National Police Service announced. 10.494 suspects of committing economic and financial offences have been investigated. The proportion of uncovered frauds is largest - 24.95% (3,414 crimes), followed by crimes involving documents - 21.9% (3,003), malfeasance - 15.7% (2,147), and embezzlement - 7.5 % (1,031). The number of foreigners who committed economic crimes increased from 139 in 2000 to 210 in 2001. The number of women involved in economic crime also increased by 16%, from 2,284 in 2000 to 2,718 in 2001. Crimes involving documents, malfeasance, and offences against the monetary system showed an upward trend, while the cases of embezzlement and mismanagement were fewer.
