SOFIA MAYOR CHARGED WITH TRUST BREACH ON MUNICIPALITY EURO BOND ISSUE

Sofia mayor Stefan Sofianski was accused of a criminal breach of trust on the Sofia Municipality Euro bond issue. Charges will be brought against him next week. If found guilty, Sofia mayor faces sentences of up to ten years of imprisonment. He was released on bail of BGN 10,000. Stefan Sofianski said he will appeal. He was summoned for questioning as a witness. Stefan Sofianski said he is not worried because the loan has been within the budget and has been checked by the Chamber of Accounts and the State financial control. Sofia municipality Euro bonds issue was launched in June 1999. The maturity is till July 2002.
