Italy has never abolished the visas for Bulgarian international truck drivers, the Foreign Ministry announced in connection with reports for protests of carriers for lack of statement on the re-introduction of the visas. The statement explains that the Bulgarian truck drivers who pass transit via Italy do not have to present visas, starting from April, 2001. The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has been conducting negotiations with Italy for abolishing the visa requirement. As a result of these negotiations, at certain times, Bulgarian carriers have been let without visas on Italian territory. However, the foreign ministry statement points out that the negotiations got complicated after numerous violations made by Bulgarian carriers.
