Bulgaria increased police forces on its border with Turkey on Thursday to stem a rising flow of illegal immigrants. "We have recently seen an unusual rise in the number of migrants, mainly from Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan, who tried to cross the Turkish-Bulgarian border," said Gospodin Hristov, head of the border police in the southern Bulgarian town of Svilengrad. Thousands of people from the Middle East, Asia and Africa try to cross Turkey to Bulgaria every year on their way to richer West European countries.
