PRESIDENT-ELECT CONFIRMS EU AND NATO MEMBERSHIP ARE HIS PRIORITIES

Incumbent President Stoyanov and President-elect Parvanov had their first official meeting forty-six days after the presidential elections when the former Socialist Party leader was elected President. Parvanov pointed out that his first official visit abroad as President will be to Brussels. According to him, that is a clear sign that his priorities are EU integration and NATO membership. The two officials discussed Parvanov's inauguration as President on January 22 as well as Bulgaria's priorities in 2002. The meeting was at the initiative of President-elect Parvanov. Parvanov told journalists that he will continue his predecessor's policy.
